ENERGY SECURITY
Is Nuclear can be seen as viable option ?
Energy security is the biggest issue which developing countries are facing these days and they are also fighting for the same issue. As energy is the main ingredient for the development and advancement of the country. It is also said that the development of the country depends on the amount of energy units it generates. The more the energy units the more developed the country is. There are various countries whose per-capita energy consumption is many times more than India per capita consumption.
UAE per-capita energy consumption is around 15 times more than India ,same is with USA , Japan, China, France whose per capita energy consumption is much higher than India.
We are lagging in energy production due to many reasons,
1. Rising fuel price in international market.
As our country is not gifted with abundance of these resources mostly oil, so we need to meet our requirement with the international market which means that we are totally dependent on international market for our oil needs .As we know that the international market is very volatile regarding oil price which keeps on fluctuating and the price keeps on rising, so we cannot rely totally on oil for our energy needs.
Then we have coal in which our 70% energy generation is depending. But as we know that these resources will not last long and they have major environmental implications like it is the major source of pollution and it releases toxic gases in the atmosphere which is affecting our human population since long time by giving various health problem, at it proved fatal in some cases .
Now the time has come where we have to look for other alternatives which are pollution free and produce green and cleaner energy .The most promising future of energy is “NUCLEAR ENERGY” which is clean, safe, and cheap. India is the richest source of thorium (6, 50000 tons) which we can use in all our nuclear reactor so we don’t have to depend on international market for our fuel requirement. This will additionally save fortune for us and that money we can put in our, development sector like healthcare, education infrastructure etc. which since the contribution of nuclear power in our country is not more than 4% but it is expected to grow to a larger amount in the coming decades. Indian future and its development program will totally depend on the energy generation from nuclear plants. Nowadays this is a much debatable topic because we have people against and many people for the project. But if we listen to our scientist and former president of India Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, he thinks that “nuclear energy is future of India”. As we know that it has various advantages than other sources of energy generation like it is safe cheap and greener. Some people thinks that nuclear plant is a threat to the country but it is not so. If we compare various aspects of nuclear plant with other energy generation sources we can make out various differences.
1. Loss of life due to emission will be reduced to very high extent.
2. It will help us to generate revenue by saving the government money in buying fuel from international market.
3. It will reduce the amount of Carbon dioxide generation.
These are some reasons but there are much more advantage than this.
This is a kind of energy which is affordable by us, it’s healthier and it has abundance energy for our future need. So to secure our future we have to think now and act accordingly and we can become the master of this technology .Even our space programs are going to use this technology in the future.
That’s why nuclear energy is the gateway for our future development and needs.
